The decision by India to bench Kuldeep Yadav for Thursday, September 19,’s Chennai Test match against Bangladesh left Sanjay Manjrekar perplexed. India used three pacers in the Chennai encounter.
Sanjay Manjrekar, a former cricket player turned commentator, expressed shock when Kuldeep Yadav was left off of the starting eleven for Thursday’s first Test match between India and Bangladesh in Chennai. India made the bold decision to field three pacers and two spinners for the match at the Chepauk in Chennai. Bangladesh will follow suit, since it was anticipated that the Chennai pitch would favour the pacers more.
This suggested that Kuldeep Yadav was not considered for the game. Manjrekar expressed his confusion on his official X account after receiving a judgment from India that he didn’t like. The veteran cricket player expressed his amazement at India’s ability to bench a player like Kuldeep for the game.
Why did India choose to use three pacers rather than Kuldeep?
The Chepauk Stadium’s field resembled the one that was utilized during the IPL 2024 championship. The pitch chosen by the curators is black soil, which will provide the pacers with additional bounce and carry. The choice of using three pacers for India would have also been influenced by the cloudy circumstances that were available on the first day.
Throughout his career, Kuldeep has been in and out of the Indian Test team, with R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja being their top spinners. During the four Test matches he played against England, Kuldeep claimed 19 wickets and made some inroads with the bat.
Bangladesh’s playing eleven is composed of the following players: Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, and Litton Das (w).
India (Playing XI): Ramindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant (w).
