Recently, Yash Dayal was called up to the Indian Test team for the impending series against Bangladesh.
The five sixes that Rinku Singh hit in the last over of the Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) match against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) have tormented young Indian seamer Yash Dayal and his family’s life in Prayagraj to this day. For the Dayal family, the fallout from that tragic event was extremely difficult.
Chanderpal Dayal, Yash’s father, related the traumatic event. He disclosed that the event was unintentional for them since schoolchildren would cry out Rinku’s name. The family consequently found it extremely upsetting to receive this kind of criticism.
For us, it resembled an accident. Little ones would cry out, “Rinku Singh, Rinku Singh, five sixes,” as the school bus would go by. It hurt so much; why did my son have to go through this? India Today cited Dayal’s father as stating.
Dayal’s father said, “It can’t get bigger than this for a father,” at the test call-up.
The family suffered as a result of the jokes; Yash’s mother became unwell and the young kid turned inward. Chanderpal, though, wouldn’t allow his son to give up on his goals. He gave Yash motivation by comparing himself to Stuart Broad, who became one of England’s finest seamers after being whacked for six sixes by Yuvraj Singh.
Until you represent India, we will not give up. You’re going to represent India. We explained to him that it had happened before and most likely would again that same evening. Stuart Broad became one of the greatest seam bowlers of all time after Yuvraj Singh smashed him for six sixes, Chanderpal continued.
Dayal’s perseverance has finally paid off, as he was called up to the Indian Test squad for the match against Bangladesh. His father disclosed that he had a feeling his name would be spoken at any point while his son was bowling well in the opening Duleep Trophy match.
For a father, it doesn’t get any bigger than this. Being a cricket player and playing for your country in Test matches is the ultimate goal. For us, our family, and our friends, today is very important. He deserves all the credit. Despite my best efforts, it was his own work that brought him to his current position. When India A was 76/4 in the second innings and Yash had claimed three of the four wickets that morning, I got suspicious. “He has made his claim; now it’s up to the selection committee,” I informed my family. He concluded they noticed his potential.
