Chandrapal, Yash Dayal’s father, thought back on his son’s hardships following his first call-up to the Indian squad for the Bangladesh series.
As Yash Dayal secured his first-ever India call-up for the forthcoming Test series against Bangladesh, his father Chandrapal pondered his son’s illustrious cricket career. Notably, Dayal has been selected for the 16-person team for the first Test against Bangladesh, which is scheduled to start at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on September 19.
The father of Yash, Chandrapal, who played cricket himself, expressed his family’s joy at his son’s selection to the Indian team. He remembered the difficulties his kid had to overcome and complimented him on his resilience.
First and foremost, our family is proud of it. A child’s dream when they first start playing is to play for their country. He’s now deserving of a call-up to serve his country. He’s come a long way from a little city. He faced many difficult obstacles in his life, yet he never gave up. Cricket was always his obsession. Success is inevitable when you have the correct concentration, Chandrapal Dayal said.
In addition, Chandrapal celebrated his son’s advancement as a player in many competitions, including the Ranji Trophy and the Indian Premier League (IPL).
We continued to lift him and encourage him: Dayal Radha
He watched me play cricket when I was a child. Despite being unable to play for UP in U19, he was chosen for U23 in 2018 and hasn’t looked back since. Since then, he has advanced steadily in all competitions—the Ranji Trophy, the IPL, etc. He continued, “Playing for India has also become a reality now.”
After her son was named to the national squad, Yash’s mother Radha was overjoyed and talked about how they inspired him to keep playing no matter what.
For us, it comes down to happiness. For us, this is very important. Together, we are all celebrating this. The entire family has assembled and is about to let off firecrackers. We are unable to put our happiness into words. It all required a great deal of effort. She claimed that we never stopped encouraging him and giving him hope so he could keep going.
Yash Dayal’s thrilling experience playing cricket
Dayal made a respectable IPL debut for Gujarat, taking 11 wickets in nine games during their winning 2022 season. But in the final over of an IPL 2023 league match, Rinku Singh of KKR crushed him for five straight sixes, and his life fell apart.
Dayal has disclosed in multiple interviews that he suffered from serious depression afterward. In the tournament’s 2024 season, he triumphed despite all the adversities, taking 15 wickets from 14 games for the Royal Challengers of Bengal and was a key factor in their qualification for the playoffs.
The 26-year-old recently contributed 4/89 over two innings in India B’s 76-run victory against India A in the opening match of the ongoing Duleep Trophy. The cricketer from Uttar Pradesh has taken 76 wickets at an average of 28.89 from 24 games in his first-class career, including one five-wicket haul. Whether he can make his Test debut against Bangladesh, given that the team already includes veteran professionals Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah, would be interesting to see.
