Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batsmen went on a rampage against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Wednesday, registering the highest score in IPL history. The Orange Army put up a daunting total of 277/3 on the board in their 20 overs at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Hyderabad, surpassing the previous record held by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) of 263/5, which they scored against Pune Warriors India in 2013. Let’s know more about this match holding the record of IPL highest score.
Head and Sharma Star in Record-Breaking Partnership
The Mumbai Indians’ bowling team made a mistake when they played against SRH which helped the batsmen of Hyderabad to break the existing record of highest runs in IPL. Captain Hardik Pandya and the team leaders may have planned to save Jasprit Bumrah to face SRH’s strong batsman Heinrich Klaasen. But their plan didn’t work well. Instead, new player Travis Head and young Abhishek Sharma hit many powerful shots against the MI bowlers in the first 10 overs.
Travis Head, in his first game for SRH, scored 50 runs in just 18 balls, breaking the team record for the fastest fifty. But his record didn’t last long because Abhishek Sharma, a left-handed batsman, did even better. He reached 50 runs in just 16 balls, hitting the MI bowlers hard.
Newcomer South African bowler Kwena Maphaka had a tough time, giving away many runs. Head and Sharma took advantage of his lack of experience, scoring 22 and 20 runs in his second and third overs. Maphaka ended up with disappointing figures of 0 wickets for 66 runs in four overs.
During the game, Jasprit Bumrah did really well for MI’s pace attack, even though he didn’t get any wickets. He only gave away 36 runs in his time bowling. By the 13th over, SRH had a big score of 180/3. Bumrah was the only bowler who didn’t let SRH hit any boundaries in his two overs.
Head scored 62 runs in just 24 balls. He hit nine fours and a huge six, which was very impressive. Abhishek Sharma also played aggressively, hitting seven sixes and three fours to make 63 runs in only 23 deliveries.
Klaasen Maintains Momentum, SRH Post Mammoth Total
After Head and Sharma left, Heinrich Klaasen kept hitting hard, ending with a strong 80 not out from 34 balls. Klaasen hit four fours and seven sixes, helping SRH score a huge total in Hyderabad.
