Shane Warne passed away unexpectedly on March 4, 2022, at the age of 52 during a holiday in Thailand. His sudden death, caused by a suspected heart attack, sent shockwaves through the sporting world, and his absence continues to be felt by family and friends.
Considered one of the greatest leg-spinners in the history of cricket, Shane Warne debuted in 1992 and transformed the art of leg-spin bowling during an era dominated by fast bowlers. Over his illustrious career, he took 708 wickets in Test cricket, ranking him as the second-highest wicket-taker in the format. He also claimed 293 wickets in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and scored more than 4,000 runs in all formats, though he never scored a century.
One of Warne’s most memorable moments came in 1993, when he bowled the legendary “Ball of the Century” to Mike Gatting, a delivery that remains celebrated in cricket history.
Even after retiring, Warne remained closely connected to the sport as a commentator, coach, and mentor. He notably led Rajasthan Royals to victory in the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008.
