Australia vs. England: Saqib Mahmood, a right-arm pacer, was appointed to the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) team roster for the five-match ODI series against Australia.
Returning to the 50-over format, Lancashire speed bowler Saqib Mahmood has been called up to the England squad for the forthcoming one-day international (ODI) series against Australia. Mahmood, 27, hasn’t participated in an ODI since March 2023 because to a relapse of a back stress fracture; nevertheless, his recent outings have shown that he’s prepared to return to international cricket.
During the current T20 series against Australia, Mahmood had a successful return, taking 2-21 in the first match played at Southampton. Mahmood’s participation gives England’s bowling attack more depth as they get ready for the five-match ODI series. He has eight wickets at an amazing average of 22.85 in 14 ODIs.
Jos Buttler, the skipper, will miss the series because of a right calf strain. Harry Brook, 25, has been selected as the stand-in captain as a result of the injury. Although Brook has captained Yorkshire in the T20 Blast and the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred, this will be his first time guiding England in any format.
Josh Hull’s quad injury has caused more havoc to England’s team. Liam Livingstone will take over for Hull, who made an impression in his Test debut against Sri Lanka. Livingstone was left out of the ODI squad at first but has since returned with a point to prove after being in excellent form during the T20I series. He will try to repeat his recent success at No. 4 in the T20 format, where he flourished, in the ODIs.
Livingstone expressed his goals for the ODI series, saying, “I’ve shown over the last month that the longer I get to bat, the more I can affect games.” I’m eager to have an influence.
On Thursday, September 19, at Trent Bridge, the eagerly awaited ODI series begins.
