Day 1 of the first Test match between India and Bangladesh saw the dismissal of India captain Rohit Sharma and Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for cheap after Shanto won the toss and chose to bowl first.
At Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, India skipper Rohit Sharma was unable to make a significant amount of runs on the opening day of the first Test match against Bangladesh. The Bangladeshi captain Najmul Hossain Shanto made an easy catch at second slip after the Indian captain edged a delivery from Hasan Mahmud for just six runs off 19 balls.
India therefore lost their opening wicket after scoring just 14 runs. As he played and missed a couple of deliveries, Rohit appeared unstable at the crease. Against Taskin Ahmed, the first batter struck gold on his eleventh ball when he stole a single. In the fourth over, Rohit narrowly avoided being leg before wicket when he was trapped in front of the stumps by Mahmud, but umpire Rod Tucker appeared uninterested in considering the plea.
The umpire’s call to rescue Rohit was based on the ball tracking showing stumps hitting. But in the very next over, Mahmud finally got rid of his man. At number three, Shubman Gill entered and appeared apprehensive about the crease in the seaming circumstances.
India selects three seamers
As Mahmud secured his second dismissal of the day, the young player was strangled down the leg side for a duck off eight balls, sending India on 28/2. Najmul Hossain Shanto, the captain of Bangladesh, had earlier urged India to bat first. He was only the second captain in history to opt to bowl first at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Akash Deep joined Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj as three seamers in India’s playing XI. It was the first time India started a home Test with three seamers since November 2019. The most recent incident occurred during the famous day/night Test in Kolkata, likewise against Bangladesh. Three seamen from Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmed, Nahid Rana, and Hasan Mahmud, also entered.
