As the team’s new coach, Ricky Ponting has declared that he will not put up with mediocrity at PBKS. After departing DC at the conclusion of the 2024 season, Ponting assumed the role of PBKS coach.
After taking over as head coach, Ricky Ponting of PBKS has made a bold declaration by stating that he will not tolerate mediocrity at the team. After PBKS’s dismal 2024 season, in which they finished ninth in the standings and missed the playoffs for the tenth consecutive year, Trevor Bayliss was fired as coach by Ponting.
After accepting his new position, Ponting stated and stated that he wanted to let everyone know that PBKS will change and that they would no longer tolerate being last in the standings. According to the former captain of Australia, the team will have greater energy.
The most important thing I want to accomplish at Punjab Kings is to let everyone know that things will be different there. We will not allow ourselves to be complacent and allow the franchise to fall to the bottom while others merely observe and lament its direction. There will be greater movement in it. And there will be a shift in the way that people discuss this squad and this franchise from before.
My interest was piqued by Project Punjab.
Ponting also admitted that prior to focusing on the PBKS project, he had discussions with other teams. The former DC coach stated that he was drawn to ‘project Punjab’ and views it as a challenge. During his tenure with the team, Ponting hopes to lead PBKS to a championship.
Yes, I was having discussions with a couple teams, but “Project Punjab” caught my attention. I regarded it as a challenge because this is a squad that hasn’t had much success in a long time and has had numerous coach changes. The second interesting aspect is that, perhaps, we can entice some of the extremely talented young players I saw at Kings last season back to the team in order to assemble a squad strong enough to win the Indian Premier League.
There’s no denying that the Kings have fielded strong teams and players over the years. They simply haven’t succeeded in winning it yet. I have a kind of long-term contract there, and hopefully we can win the IPL in that time, Ponting added.
Ponting’s agreement with PBKS runs through 2027.
