St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, weakened by injuries in the opening week of CPL 2024, have received a boost with the return of Wanindu Hasaranga and the signing of New Zealand allrounder Josh Clarkson. Hasaranga, who was initially ruled out due to a hamstring injury, is now back, replacing Sikandar Raza. Clarkson has been brought on board to take the place of Tristan Stubbs, who is heading back to South Africa to fulfill his national responsibilities.
Tabraiz Shamsi will also leave temporarily for CSA commitments and will be replaced by Pakistan-born USA wristspinner Mohammad Mohsin. Mohsin, 28, has impressed in Major League Cricket, taking 15 wickets for Texas Super Kings at an economy rate of 7.43.
Clarkson, known for his hard-hitting ability and useful pace bowling, has recently been awarded his first New Zealand central contract. He has played 89 T20 matches, scoring 1673 runs at a strike rate of 147.40 and taking 11 wickets.
Patriots head coach Malolan Rangarajan expressed frustration over the injuries, particularly Sikandar Raza’s. He emphasized that the team had planned around Raza as a key player for the season.
Despite a thrilling last-ball victory against Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, Patriots have struggled with back-to-back defeats at home against Trinbago Knight Riders and St Lucia Kings. Although they posted scores above 200 in both matches, their bowlers faced tough opposition.
Patriots have managed just two wins in their last 12 games over the past two seasons, but the team remains united and determined to overcome the challenges.
