Morne Morkel reported to the Indian camp in Chennai on September 13.
Before the two-match Test series, the former pacer Morne Morkel joined the India camp in Chennai after being named the new bowling coach by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). As the Rohit Sharma-led team prepares for a 10-Test marathon—two against Bangladesh, three against New Zealand, and then a five-match away series against Australia—he was spotted hanging out with young pacers like Akash Deep.
Following the first practice, Morkel said that the Indian squad is fortunate to have several excellent senior players in the ranks and that the setup pretty much works itself. The former South Africa international is keen to impart information and safeguard the existing established setup, even if he is aware that the Indian team has big expectations.
Fortunately, I have encountered the expectations of winning during my playing days, so I am aware that they will exist. I’m able to impart such information. We are quite fortunate to have excellent senior players, I thought to myself as I was creating the plan. The older players take the lead. We must provide them with assistance. Just offer them the best counsel we can provide. This arrangement functions independently. In a video that BCCI issued, Morkel stated, “So the goal is to protect that and better that.”
Morkel discusses his appointment as India’s coach
The 39-year-old claimed that after receiving a call from BCCI offering him the position of head coach, he waited in his room for five minutes before speaking with his happy father. He described it as exceptional and expressed excitement for the position.
“I sat in the room and thought about it for five minutes. I talked to my father before my wife. Usually, they tell you to go talk to your wife, but I went to talk to my dad. As someone who has watched cricket for a long time, knowing what lies ahead is truly a unique experience. After taking advantage of the opportunity for five to seven minutes on my own, I told my family about it,” Morkel stated.
