Matthew Mott, who previously served as the head coach for both England’s men’s team and Australia’s women’s team, has entered into a three-year agreement to join the Sydney Sixers as an assistant coach. He will work alongside head coach Greg Shipperd and replace Cameron White, who was appointed head coach of the Melbourne Renegades in June.
Mott brings a wealth of experience to the Sydney Sixers. Under his leadership, the Australian women’s team won the ODI World Cup in 2022 and the T20 World Cup in 2018 and 2020. He also led the England men’s team to victory in the T20 World Cup in 2022.
Returning to Sydney, where his coaching career began, Mott expressed his enthusiasm about rejoining the Sydney Sixers. He started his coaching journey with the New South Wales Blues in 2007. Mott highlighted his respect for Greg Shipperd and the familiarity of Sydney as key factors in his decision to join the team.
Rachael Haynes, General Manager of the Sydney Sixers, praised the decision to bring Mott on board. She stated that securing a coach of Mott’s calibre was an obvious choice and emphasized the value he will add to the team.
The Sydney Sixers are gearing up for their Big Bash League (BBL) campaign, which will kick off against the Melbourne Renegades on December 16.
