The Sydney Sixers have hired former England men’s and Australia women’s head coach Matthew Mott as an assistant coach. He has signed a three -year contract with the team. He has taken over for Cameron White, who was hired head coach of the Melbourne Renegades earlier in June, and will work closely with head coach Greg Shipperd.
Thus far, Mott has had an impressive career as a coach. He led the Australian women’s team to victory in the ODI World Cup in 2022 as well as the T20 World Cup in 2018 and 2020 while serving as head coach. Additionally, he led the England men to victory in the 2022 T20 World Cup
Back to Sydney, where he started his coaching career in 2007 after being named head coach of the New South Wales Blues, is Mott.
“I’m thrilled to be back with the Sydney Sixers,” stated Mott. “I’m looking forward to returning to Sydney, as it holds many wonderful memories and a reassuring sense of familiarity from when I first began my coaching adventure there many years ago. I really liked the notion of working as Greg Shipperd’s assistant; I have a great deal of respect for him.
The Sydney Sixers’ general manager, Rachael Haynes, stated that they didn’t hesitate to hire a coach of Mott’s calibre.
‘Motty’s’ commitment to the club for the next three years fills us with great satisfaction. It makes perfect sense to add a coach of Motty’s caliber to your team whenever the chance presents itself. We are aware of his immense value to our playing group.
The Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Renegades will play their first BBL match on December 16.
