Kane Williamson Out for Second Test Against India
Kane Williamson will miss the second Test match between India and New Zealand, which begins on October 24 in Pune, as he continues to recover from a groin strain. The star batter did not accompany the New Zealand squad to India, having sustained the injury during their tour of Sri Lanka last month. His absence is notable as he plays a pivotal role in the team’s batting lineup.
In Williamson’s absence, Will Young stepped in to bat at No. 3 during the first Test in Bengaluru, scoring 33 and an unbeaten 48. While Young’s contributions were commendable, the team is keen to have their regular captain back on the field. New Zealand coach Gary Stead provided an update on Williamson’s condition, indicating that he is progressing but is not yet fully fit to play.
We’re keeping an eye on Kane, and he’s making progress, but he’s not yet fully fit, according to Stead. He expressed optimism about Williamson’s recovery, hoping that he would be available for the third Test in Mumbai. Stead emphasized the importance of a cautious approach to ensure Williamson returns to full fitness without risking further injury.
Currently, New Zealand leads the three-Test series 1-0 after a convincing eight-wicket victory in the first Test. Rachin Ravindra was instrumental in that win, being named Player of the Match for his century in the first innings and a vital 39* in the chase. Meanwhile, bowlers Matt Henry and Will O’Rourke excelled, taking eight and seven wickets, respectively, to secure the victory.

The hope remains that Williamson’s condition will improve, allowing him to contribute to the team’s efforts in the crucial upcoming matches.
