Jos Buttler, the captain of England’s white-ball team, expressed his excitement about collaborating with Brendon McCullum in the future. Earlier in September, McCullum, the head coach of the England Test squad before the white-ball series against Australia, was given responsibility for all three forms of the match.
The combative cricketer Buttler claimed that he shared McCullum’s mindset and expressed excitement about learning more about the former New Zealand player.
Although [Brendon McCullum] Baz and I have a somewhat romantic relationship, I’m eager to spend more time with him. I’m eager to learn more about the cricket aspect of things. At England’s third T20I against Australia, Buttler said to Sky Sports, “He will help me so much as a captain.”
Though our perspectives on the game are similar, spending time with him has opened my eyes to some aspects, or the other way around. I want this to be the most fulfilling aspect of my work, personally. He went on, “I’ve played for a fair amount of time now, so maybe a shift in the goalposts of what you want to achieve,” adding that for me, that was helping guys become the best versions of themselves and preparing for two major tournaments later.
The term of Brendon McCullum will begin in January 2025.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on September 3 that Brendon McCullum will take over as team captain for the white-ball team. McCullum has been the coach of the Test team since May 2022; his contract has been extended till the end of 2027. Beginning in January 2025 with England’s white-ball tour of India and continuing through the ICC Champions Trophy, he will be in control of the white-ball and Test teams.
Marcus Trescothick will take over as England’s Interim Head Coach until then for the Caribbean tour later this year and the series against Australia. Numerous people have praised McCullum’s efforts with the Test team, and former captain Eoin Morgan has given the former wicketkeeper strong endorsements for the position of England white-ball coach. After England’s failure to win the T20 World Cup, former coach Matthew Mott announced his resignation.
In response to the recent event, McCullum expressed his excitement about expanding his responsibilities to include the white-ball teams. The former batter for New Zealand declared himself prepared to take on the new task and collaborate closely with captain Jos Buttler.
