IPL 2025 Auction Set for Jeddah
The IPL 2025 Player Auction is set to take place overseas for the second consecutive year, with Jeddah in Saudi Arabia chosen as the venue. The event will be held on November 24 and 25, as confirmed by the BCCI. A total of 1,574 players have registered for the auction, with 1,165 Indian players and 409 overseas players, including 30 from Associate nations. South Africa and Australia lead the list with 91 and 76 registrations respectively, while the auction clashes with India’s Border Gavaskar Trophy Test series against Australia, with the Perth Test scheduled to begin on November 22.
204 Slots Available Across 10 Teams
Following the retention process completed on October 31, a total of 204 slots will be available for the franchises to fill during the auction, including 70 overseas slots. With each franchise allowed to have a maximum of 25 players, this auction promises to be a crucial one for the teams. The BCCI also confirmed that Punjab Kings would enter the auction with the largest purse (₹110.5 Crore), having retained only two uncapped players. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals have the smallest purse (₹41 Crore), after retaining six players, five of whom are capped.
Key Insights on Teams’ Retentions and Budgets
The retention strategy has significantly influenced the purse and available slots for the IPL 2025 auction. Teams like Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) have retained five players each, while Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have kept six players, limiting their available funds for new signings. Interestingly, Punjab Kings will have the most money to spend, whereas Rajasthan Royals have opted for a more conservative approach, leaving them with a smaller budget. The available salary caps and slots give a glimpse of how each team plans to build its squad for the upcoming season.
