IPL2025: Dwayne Bravo, a former all-rounder for the West Indies, has been named the mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders for the forthcoming Indian Premier League season. Thus, Bravo’s affiliation with the Chennai Super Kings terminates.
Dwayne Bravo, a former West Indies all-rounder, has been named the mentor of the defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders for the Indian Premier League 2025 season. The renowned fast bowler will take over for Gautam Gambhir, who stepped down as a mentor to become head coach of the Indian national team.
For this reason, Dwayne Bravo will no longer be associated with the Chennai Super Kings. Bravo was the Super Kings’ IPL 2024 bowling coach. Bravo was appointed just hours after the all-round player said on Friday, September 27, that he was quitting cricket altogether. Bravo, who has taken the most wickets in T20 history (631 in 582 matches), announced his decision after his Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 season was cut short due to a groin injury.
Bravo will collaborate with the other Knight Riders clubs in the Caribbean Premier League, Major League Cricket in the US, and ILT20 in the UAE, according to KKR CEO Venky Mysore.
The news that DJ Bravo is joining us is quite exciting. His great expertise and knowledge, together with his strong desire to succeed wherever he plays, will be extremely beneficial to the team and all of the players. Mysore said in a statement, “We are also extremely happy that he will be involved with all of our other franchises around the world, CPL, MLC, & ILT20.”
The four-time IPL champion has a long history with the Knight Riders, having spent the majority of his CPL career with the Trinbago Knight Riders, despite having only played for the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
In 2022 and 2023, Bravo served as the bowling coach for the Super Kings.
Bravo stopped playing cricket for his country in 2021, but he still played for his franchise and started coaching. He most recently served as a bowling consultant for Afghanistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies while working with his IPL team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Bravo’s ability to perform under duress, especially with his slower deliveries and death-over bowling, helped him establish a legendary career in T20 cricket. In addition to leading St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots to their first CPL championship in 2021, he led Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) to back-to-back CPL victories in 2017 and 2018.
