Following ankle surgery, Mohammed Shami is currently recuperating.
India released the roster for their opening Test match against Bangladesh, marking Rishabh Pant’s first appearance on the Test side since his car accident in December 2022. For Mohammed Shami, however, who is recuperating from an ankle surgery, there was no return.
In the meantime, Yash Dayal, a left-arm seamer, has been called up for his first Test match. With an eye toward the five-Test series in Australia later this year, he made his choice.
KL Rahul, who missed the England series after one Test, is also back on the 16-man roster. Having made his debut in that series, Akash Deep has remained in that position. Akash made another impressive showing in the Duleep Trophy match in Bengaluru, taking nine wickets.
Rahul suffered a quadriceps injury in January during his final Test match against England, which kept him out of the remainder of the series. In the same Duleep Trophy match, he performed admirably for India A, scoring 37 in the first and 57 in the second innings. Pant amassed 7 and 61 for India B while also grabbing seven catches behind the wickets.
Dayal contributed to India B’s easy victory by taking three wickets in the fourth innings. So far, he has participated in 24 first-class matches and claimed 76 wickets at an average of 28.89.
The second wicketkeeper in the side is Dhruv Jurel, who made his debut against England and amassed 190 runs in three Test matches. India has excluded Washington Sundar, Mukesh Kumar, Devdutt Padikkal, KS Bharat, and Rajat Patidar from that series.
Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah are anticipated to spearhead the speed attack. India selected the standard quartet of R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav in the spin department.
On September 19 and September 27, respectively, the first and second Tests against Bangladesh will take place in Chennai and Kanpur. There will be three T20Is after the two Tests.
