“What stopped Pandya Bros from represent Baroda in the Dr. Thimmappiah tournament held in Bangalore?” Waingankar Makarand tweeted.
In recent times, top India all-rounder Hardik Pandya has witnessed numerous important events in his career. The year has been quite the journey for Hardik, starting with his booing by fans worldwide upon returning to the Mumbai Indians as captain and ending with him assisting his 2024 team to the T20 World Cup victory.
In the T20I series, Hardik’s final match for India was against Sri Lanka in late July 2024. He hasn’t appeared for the team since then. Hardik may play for the team in the upcoming T20I Series against Bangladesh, as India is currently deep in their Test series with that country.
But the absence of Hardik and his brother Krunal from even domestic cricket has been a topic of much controversy. It is noteworthy that the Dr. (Capt.) K. Thimmappiah Memorial Trophy 2024–25 is currently being held by the Karnataka State Cricket Association at SJCE Grounds and SDNR Wadiyar Stadium. Since the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) is a participant in the competition, there have been inquiries concerning the Pandya brothers’ absence.
Former BCA CEO, journalist, and administrator Makarand Waingankar took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to question the brothers’ decision to not participate in the competition.
What prevented Pandya Bros from represent Baroda in the Dr. Thimmappiah competition held in Bangalore? Why is the organization that the great Vijay Hazare and others represented allowing the prima dona culture to undermine teamwork? Waingankar sent out a tweet.
There’s been anecdotal evidence, based on scant to nonexistent information, that Hardik is returning to the longest format. According to a source from the Baroda Cricket Association, the talented all-round player might play for Baroda.
It’s important to note that Hardik hasn’t participated in an India Test since 2018. It is quite unlikely that he would now play for Baroda in red- and white-ball cricket. However, he may have a better chance of getting chosen for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 if he does play for Baroda in the longest format.
Why did the best Indian hitters of today look so rustic? wagankar
Regarding the first day’s play of the first Test match between Bangladesh and India, which is being played in Chennai, Waingankar also offered his thoughts. The Indian batting team received harsh criticism from the former administration, particularly from the veteran players who had just taken a break. Waingankar added that it was challenging for those players to adapt to new tactics.
Regarding the match, the Indian top order collapsed in the second half. Virat Kohli, who was looking excellent, was out for seventeen runs, while Rohit Sharma was removed for just five runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal was also removed for ten after failing to build on his first innings effort. Early on Day 3, the score is 121/3 thanks to the stabilisation of the innings by Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant.
