The veteran aims to be part of Australia’s January and February 2025 visit to Sri Lanka as part of the Test series’ revival.
Australia’s Glenn Maxwell is vying for a position in the Test team. He will play in the Sheffield Shield cricket competition in the hopes of making a Test comeback. Maxwell last played for the Whites of Australia in a 2017 match against Bangladesh. With only seven red-ball games under his belt, the right-handed batter has amassed 339 runs at an average of 26.07.
The veteran hopes to be part of Australia’s January and February 2025 visit to Sri Lanka as part of the Test series’ revival. Maxwell will participate in a few Sheffield Shield games, according to Will Sutherland, the captain of Victoria, who made the announcement ahead of summer. It is noteworthy that the 36-year-old did not participate in a Sheffield Shield match for Victoria in February of 2023.
I think he’s eager to play and that he’ll be accessible for a few. Having a player like Glenn potentially join our team is a bit of a luxury, so maybe it can work out well. Of course, things can change with him playing right now, Sutherland added.
I just won’t be able to bowl as many overs in the future: Sutherland
Speaking about Sutherland, the 24-year-old stated he will be restraining himself from rolling his arm since he recently recovered from a stress fracture. The all-round player went on to say that although he might end up bowling some overs, he is unable to extend the practise and that workload constraints may cause him to miss certain Victoria matches.
Though I probably won’t be able to bowl as many overs as I would like, I will still be able to participate in the first game. I’ll be subject to limitations. How that turns out will depend on how Friday goes. Yes, there will undoubtedly be restrictions. I believe the primary problem is bowling on consecutive days. I can bowl really well one day, but regrettably, there will be some conflict the next day. Thus, it does occasionally cause some problems. He continued, “But we’ll just have to work through that and maybe miss the occasional game here and there.”
