Fastest Team Fifty and Hundred in Test Cricket History
India vs. Bangladesh: On Monday, on the fourth day of the 2nd Test in Kanpur, Team India surpassed the records for quickest team fifty and fastest team hundred, reaching those milestones in three and 10 overs, respectively.
At Green Park in Kanpur on Monday, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi used a T20-style batting approach to score the fastest fifty in Test cricket history in just three overs against Bangladesh. On the fourth day of the second Test match, this landmark was accomplished thanks in large part to the opening combination of Rohit Sharma (19 runs not out from 6 balls) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (30 runs from 13 balls).
On the fourth day of the second Test against Bangladesh, India broke the record set by England for the fastest team fifty, reaching that mark in just three overs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz ultimately clean bowled Rohit for a 23 off 11 balls. Earlier in July, against West Indies at Trent Bridge, England broke a 30-year-old record for the fastest men’s team Test fifty by reaching the 50-run mark in just 4.2 overs.
The next three positions for the fastest team fifties in Test cricket are now occupied by England’s cricket team. In a 2002 Test match at Manchester’s Old Trafford, England scored their third-fastest fifty in five overs against Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka, who came close to reaching a fifty in 5.2 overs against Pakistan in Karachi in 2004, is ranked fourth on this list, after England.
Test cricket’s fastest team 50 ever recorded
- 3. India vs. Bangladesh, Kanpur, 2024
- 4.2: England in Nottingham, 2024 vs WI
- 4.3 England vs. SA, 1994, The Oval
- 4.6: England vs. Sri Lanka, Manchester 2002
- 5.2-PAK vs. Sri Lanka, Karachi, 2004
- 5.3- Chennai, 2008: India vs ENG
- 5.3: 2023, Port of Spain – India vs. WI
India’s feat was a part of an even more impressive display as they also broke the previous record for the fastest team hundred in Test cricket, which was 12.2 overs from a 2023 match against the West Indies, by scoring 100 runs in just 10.1 overs.
With 12 fours and 2 sixes in his 68 runs off 41 balls, Yashasvi Jaiswal was very outstanding. With the help of Shubman Gill (11 off 11 balls) and his aggressive style, India’s run rate reached more than 10 per over. Despite Hasan Mahmud and Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s early bowling attempts, the Indian squad dominated and cruised at a fast speed.
