Guyana Amazon Warriors were defeated by six wickets in the final by St Lucia Kings.
After Guyana Amazon Warriors had reduced St Lucia Kings to 51/4 after they had chased 139 runs. Particularly with 66 runs needed in the final five overs, they were under extreme strain. It appeared as though St Lucia would win the game, but with just 11 deliveries left, Roston Chase and Aaron Jones caused mayhem and won it.
Aaron Jones, an international for the United States, hit an undefeated 48 runs off 31 deliveries, while Chase hammered 39* off 22 balls. St Lucia won the much-coveted trophy and their first-ever CPL victory thanks to a partnership of 88 runs.
Following the game, skipper Faf du Plessis noted that the game was losing steam at one point. At that moment, he advised Aaron and Roston to pick up the pace and not leave it too late. Both cricket players proceeded to play with aggression, contributing to St Lucia’s six-wicket victory. The skipper, however, praised his fellow teammates for occasionally stepping up.
We sent out a message to the players to give it a go since we felt the game was getting away from us and we couldn’t wait until it was too late. After that, they started playing some amazing shots. I am quite pleased with the guys as a team, even though this collection of guys isn’t particularly outstanding. Several guys raised their hands at different points during the competition. When the tournament in St. Lucia began, there was much anticipation over whether this would be the season. Faf noted during the post-match presentation that winning the first CPL trophy is a fantastic accomplishment.
Despite our fortunate today, some things didn’t work out: Tahir Imran
Imran Tahir, the captain of the Guyana Amazon Warriors, thought back on some of the things that didn’t go their way the night of the championship. He pointed out that the team was under pressure to win because they were losing wickets while batting, and it ultimately determined the outcome between the two teams. He was pleased with his team’ performance during the season, though.
The only thing that I could find wrong was that we didn’t start off strong with the bat, kept losing wickets, and ultimately didn’t score enough. However, we had a great tournament; we were just unlucky that certain things didn’t work out today. Some LBWs failed to reach the stumps. We bowled pretty well together and had a vague concept of the number (170-180 would have been a respectable total), but one over cost us the game, according to Tahir.
