Stuart Broad, a former fast bowler for England, claimed that Josh Hull’s behavior makes him somewhat of Mitchell Johnson. Hull made his debut at the Oval in the third Test currently in progress against Sri Lanka.
Stuart Broad, a former fast bowler for England, claimed that Josh Hull’s motion makes him think of former Mitchell Johnson, an Australian speedster. Notably, Hull replaced Matthew Potts in the third Test match against Sri Lanka and England, which is now underway at Kennington Oval in London. Hull is the tallest England fast bowler ever, standing at 6 feet 7 inches.
In his first game wearing an England jersey, he scored a magnificent 3/53, assisting his team in routing Sri Lanka for 263 runs. Regarding the pacer’s initial impressions at the international level, Broad remarked that he was reminded of Mitchell Johnson by his clingy action and that he could get more bounce off of the ball with a slight alteration in bowling motion.
With his sling action to get that bowling arm closer to the ear and deliver from higher, he kind of reminds me of Mitchell Johnson. However, you must be able to accomplish that without losing your swing, as that poses a serious risk to him. The flirtatious behaviour could not be harmful. The 38-year-old was cited by Sky Sports as saying, “It might not allow you to get the bounce you would like but you can get the ball to skid on.”
Speaking further, Broad complimented the young seamen’s skill and predicted that, in due course, he would also increase his speed.
I’m rather impressed. He’s been singled out for qualities. He was able to get the ball to swing back into the right-handed hitter with his height and bounce. In a test match, an average of 83 mph is acceptable, but as he ages, he will get faster. I believe that with time, his run-up will change. It won’t last as long as it does now, in my opinion. The most important thing to me is that he is positioned to force the hitter to play since his feet and hips are facing the target, said Broad.
After taking 17 wickets at an average of 24.23 from nine matches in the 2023 One-Day Cup, he was a major factor in Leicestershire’s victory. He also had a terrific debut for the England Lions earlier this month, taking five wickets for 74 runs in a seven-wicket triumph against the Sri Lankans on tour. Hull has played in ten games during his brief first-class career, taking 16 wickets with the best figures of 5/74.
On Day 3, the Sri Lankan bowlers ignited the third Test match with a brilliant display as they bowled England out for 156. With the ball, Lahiru Kumara shone, accumulating 4/21 in seven overs. With Pathum Nissanka (53* off 44) and Kusal Mendis (30* off 25) at the crease, Sri Lanka is well positioned at 94/1 in 15 overs as they chase a target of 219 in the fourth innings. On Day 4, the visitors will be aiming for their first victory in Sri Lanka since 2014.
