There will be teams from five different countries competing for a $1 million prize pool.
From November 26 to December 7, a brand-new five-team T20 competition named the Global Super League is scheduled to take place in Guyana. The league, which has a $1 million prize fund, is authorised by Cricket West Indies (CWI) and “fully supported” by the government of Guyana, a “key stakeholder” in the competition. The league will include teams from five different nations.
This will be the first solo cricket tournament in South America and will include four other “established” T20 teams from around the globe in addition to the Guyana Amazon Warriors of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Hampshire, the three-time winners of England’s T20 Blast, is one of the sides that ESPNcricinfo has heard has been invited.
The Global Super League T20 will consist of 11 matches, with each side participating in four group-stage matches. The top two teams will then continue to the final. Providence’s Guyana National Stadium will host all of the games. According to a press release, the competition is scheduled to occur every year, with invitations extended to various international teams for each season.
Guyana has an as intense love for cricket as any other country, and we are excited to share this passion with people who are here in person as well as those who are watching from around the globe. The chairman of the Global Super League, Clive Lloyd, was cited in a press release.
Guyana’s home team is the Amazon Warriors, the 2023 CPL champions. Additionally, they have finished second six times: in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2024.
As we develop a top-notch sports tourist offering, the Government of Guyana fully supports the Global Super League, according to President Mohammed Irfaan Ali of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana. Cricket is an essential component of our past, our cultural history, and our strategic goal of economic diversification with a focus on tourism. It also serves as a unifying factor within our tradition.
The Abu Dhabi T10, which is scheduled to take place from November 21 to December 2, and Bangladesh’s Caribbean tour—which will begin with Tests from November 22 to December 4, then three ODIs from December 8 to 12 and three T20Is from December 16 to 20—will clash with the Global Super League.
