Miles Bascombe stated that CWI has committed to upholding honest and open communication with players while remaining realistic about the reality of the contemporary match.
Many of Cricket West Indies (CWI) top men’s and women’s players now have multi-year contracts, a first for the organization in question. For the next two years, the agreements are in effect. The same is now possible because of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the CWI and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA), which was signed in January 2024 and lasts for four years.
It is noteworthy that 15 players for the men’s West Indies have contracts, six of which are multi-year agreements. Moreover, three of the fifteen female players under contract have signed multi-year contracts.
Miles Bascombe, the board’s director of cricket, spoke up in response to the multi-year contracts being given. He praised the players who had signed contracts and discussed how the board had been able to have candid discussions with them.
CWI pledged to continue having open discussions with gamers while remaining realistic about the reality of the current game. The players have answered in kind, and the fact that multi-year contracts have been accepted shows that both parties are clear, confident, and committed. As stated by Cricket West Indies, Miles Bascombe expressed his gratitude to the entire contracted cohort for their efforts throughout the previous assessment period and expressed excitement about them continuing to improve in the next one.
Notably, the six men’s players that have been awarded multi-year contracts are Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Gudakesh Motie, and Jayden Seales. Conversely, the women with multi-year contracts are Shemaine Campbelle, Hayley Matthews, and Stafanie Taylor.
For cricket players on one-year contracts, the contract duration is from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025; for those on multi-year contracts, it is from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2026.
