McDonald Remains Head Coach
Cricket Australia (CA) has announced the extension of Andrew McDonald’s contract as head coach of the Australian men’s cricket team through to the end of 2027. Since taking the helm in 2022, McDonald has led the team to significant achievements, including winning the inaugural ICC World Test Championship, securing a remarkable ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup title, and retaining the Ashes in England. Under his guidance, Australia is currently ranked as the No. 1 Test squad and the number 2 team in both ODI and T20 competitions.
McDonald and Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley will both speak to the media on Thursday at the MCG’s Dennis Lillee Statue in light of the extension. This contract renewal underscores CA’s confidence in McDonald’s leadership as he prepares the team for several key tournaments, including the next World Test Championship campaign and the defense of their one-day Cricket World Cup title in 2027. The extension also encompasses the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and next year’s Champion’s Trophy.
