The BCCI office-bearers are not expected to address the nomination of a new secretary at Wednesday’s apex council meeting. The International Cricket Council’s chief, Jay Shah, was unanimously elected and will step down in December.
The selection of a new secretary to succeed departing Jay Shah is not on the agenda for the BCCI Apex Council’s meeting on Wednesday, which is intended to address a range of matters pertaining to the board’s operations.
Before the Board’s 93rd Annual General Meeting in Bengaluru in five days, this meeting would be the final one of the apex council. Shah was unanimously elected as the next Chairman of the International Criminal Court, necessitating the nomination of a new secretary. Shah is not going to resign from his position as BCCI Secretary at the forthcoming AGM because he would only take up his new role on December 1.
The eight items on the apex council’s agenda, which include the update on Byju’s case among others, do not even include a discussion of the nomination process. The BCCI and their previous title sponsor are having payment settlement problems. In March of last year, the troubled ed-tech company terminated its sponsorship agreement with the BCCI.
Byju Raveendran co-founded the Bengaluru-based company, which was first awarded a three-year jersey sponsorship agreement in March 2019. The deal was later extended by an additional year for an alleged USD 55 million. Although payments were made through September 2022, the unpaid balances from October 2022 to March 2023 are the subject of the debate.
The opening of the cutting-edge National Cricket Academy on the outskirts of Bengaluru will also be discussed.
The NCA has been operating out of the M Chinnaswamy stadium since its founding more over a decade ago.
The North East development project and the approval to start renovating the outside of the BCCI offices in Mumbai are also on the agenda.
