The middle-order batsman has played in 14 Test matches so far, with varying degrees of success.
Some seasoned players were re-entering the fold, and left-arm pacer Yash Dayal received his first-ever call-up to the Indian team, which was announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) three days ago. The team will play Bangladesh in the opening Test of the series. One name, Shreyas Iyer, was absent from the list, though, and this led to a conversation by former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra on the batter’s immediate prospects in the Test arena.
Chopra emphasized Iyer’s performance from India’s 2022 trip to Bangladesh. He did, however, correctly hint that his performances had fallen short of expectations since then, which may have given him little chance of advancing his red-ball career shortly.
It’s interesting to note that Shreyas Iyer had a crucial performance in the last game when we defeated Bangladesh in that country previously. He made a vital knock that helped us win, but things have altered since then. In response to a query from a viewer of a recent YouTube video that Chopra had posted, “I don’t see any chances for Shreyas Iyer in Tests at the moment,” Chopra said.
Chopra underlined how far Iyer was from being taken seriously by restating Iyer’s scenario that he could think of at least three players from the current system who would not be included in the first Test squad.
“Not every spectator will be able to take part in every game. The men that play for this team, Sarfaraz, Dhruv Jurel, and KL Rahul. I believe they won’t be able to make the starting lineup. What role will Shreyas Iyer play in this, then? observed Chopra.
He must compete in the Ranji Trophy: On Ishan Kishan, Chopra.
Chopra also mentioned Ishan Kishan, another player who hasn’t been involved in the game for a while. He made it quite apparent that winning the Ranji Trophy was the only way the wicketkeeper-batter would increase his chances of being recalled to the Indian side.
“It’s being said that he didn’t play because he wasn’t fit. After participating in one or two games at Buchi Babu, he stopped participating in sports. The Ranji Trophy will have to be played by him. To be fair, there isn’t a cricket game anymore. Thus, he should participate in the Ranji Trophy and score runs, as he is a skilled player, Chopra said.
Kishan’s achievements in the Indian Premier League and the domestic season should be more than enough to get him back into the Indian squad, according to Chopra, who went on to highlight Kishan’s abilities.
How many ODI players have amassed a double hundred? He has a double hundred. He is a serious player. He’s become somewhat stuck. There will be a chance for him to return, but he had to go and stand behind in line. The number of runs he scores and the outcome of his domestic season will be intriguing to watch. I don’t believe that he has any further options. He will return after a successful IPL and domestic season, Chopra continued.
Iyer has played in three more Indian jersey games than Kishan, even though both players were not included in the BCCI’s retainers list earlier this year. He played for the ODI team that was defeated by Sri Lanka in that island nation last month.
