Second Test match between India and Bangladesh: Rohit Sharma decided to field at Green Park during the toss. In Kanpur, a team has won the toss and chosen to bowl for the first time in sixty years.
It appears that the Test series between Bangladesh and India is going against the traditions of Test cricket in India. At the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Bangladesh became the first team in 42 years to win the toss and choose to bowl, ending India’s 60-year wait in Kanpur. On Friday, September 27, Rohit Sharma chose to field against Bangladesh at Green Park after winning the toss.
Due to a dirty outfield and overnight rain, Rohit Sharma and Najmul Hossain Shanto were forced to postpone their toss by an hour. Because of the cloud cover and the patch of grass the curators had left on the field, Rohit did not think twice about taking a bowling stroke.
Just two teams have chosen to field after winning the toss in the 24 Test matches that have taken place at one of India’s iconic locations. Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi’s Indian team won the toss and chose to field at Kanpur; forced to follow on, India managed to salvage a tie. In reply to England’s massive total of 559 for 8 declared, India managed to score 266 thanks to Dilip Sardesai’s 79 in the first innings.
In the first innings for England, Peter Parfitt and Barry Knight both scored hundreds. When urged to continue, India produced a stronger showing in the second innings. Budhi Kunderan scored 55, followed by Bapu Nadkarni’s 122. Salim Durani scored 61 and Dilip Sardesai remained undefeated at 77 in the second innings as India managed to hold on for a draw with 347 for 3.
INDIA RECORD IN KANPUR
24, PLAYED, 7, WON, 3, LOST, 13, Drawn.
India, under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, will want to finish with a 2-0 thumping and move one step closer to the World Test Championship final. In the first Test match, India crushed Bangladesh by 281 runs on a Chennai wicket that featured more bounce than usual.
Because of the cloud cover and the amount of grass on the field, India decided to stick with their playing eleven and go with a three-man speed attack. However, Bangladesh entered the game with three spinners, including Taijul Islam. They added Khaled Ahmed to their pace battery and discarded Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana.
