India vs. Bangladesh, Chennai Test: After ten Test matches, Yashasvi Jaiswal has surpassed the famous Sunil Gavaskar’s record to become the most runs scored by an Indian batter. Gavaskar has scored 978 runs, while Jaiswal has scored 1,094 runs.
In the current Chennai Test match against Bangladesh, young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has put another feather to his cap by surpassing a long-standing record set by the legendary Sunil Gavaskar. Playing in his tenth Test match, Jaiswal has surpassed Gavaskar’s record of 978 runs to take the lead for the most runs scored by an Indian batter in their first ten Test matches.
With a total of 1,094 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai during the first Test match against Bangladesh, Jaiswal cemented his place in history. After scoring an impressive 56 runs in the first innings, he could only muster 10 runs in the second, but it was enough to overturn Gavaskar’s 51-year-old record, which had stood since 1973.
Thanks to his remarkable run total, Jaiswal is now fourth only to Don Bradman (Australia), Everton Weekes (West Indies), and George Headley (West Indies) on the all-time list for most runs after ten Test matches.
AFTER THE FIRST TEN TESTS, MOST RUNS
Australia’s Don Bradman scored 1,446 runs.
West Indies’ Everton Weekes scored 1,125 runs.
West Indian George Headley scored 1,102 runs.
India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 1,094 runs.
Australia’s Mark Taylor scored 1,088 runs.
Jaiswal has been one of India’s best players in 2024; in just 13 innings, he has amassed 806 runs. He is now India’s leading run scorer in all formats in international cricket for 2024 thanks to his outstanding consistency at bat.
On the first day of this Test, he showed his tenacity by making a solid 56 runs as India’s top batters, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, were unable to muster much of an impact. Jaiswal’s remarkable career average of 67.16, bolstered by two century and four half-centuries, ensures his place in the Indian Test team.
With 1,094 Test runs, Jaiswal is also getting close to overtaking Rohit Sharma as the number one player for India in the ICC Test rankings. As the young player continues to push limits and break records, observers are intently following Jaiswal’s meteoric rise in international cricket.
