Playing in his tenth Test match, Jaiswal has surpassed Gavaskar’s record of 978 runs to take the lead for the most runs scored by an Indian batter in their first ten Test matches.
With a total of 1,094 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai during the first Test match against Bangladesh, Jaiswal cemented his place in history. After scoring an impressive 56 runs in the first innings, he could only muster 10 runs in the second, but it was enough to overturn Gavaskar’s 51-year-old record, which had stood since 1973.
Thanks to his remarkable run total, Jaiswal is now fourth only to Don Bradman (Australia), Everton Weekes (West Indies), and George Headley (West Indies) on the all-time list for most runs after ten Test matches.
