“Jofra [Archer] bowled a hell of a spell at the beginning, and I got lucky.” I’m happy I can go on; this is a fantastic wicket. Head remarked, “I think we did a great job getting it to 315.”
England was defeated by Australia in the opening One-Day International of the current series. On Thursday, September 19, both teams squared off in the first One Day International at Trent Bridge, with England choosing to bat first. With a total of 315 runs scored in the game’s opening innings, the team displayed great hitting performance.
But as Australia started to chase the target, it was lead batsman Travis Head’s knock that gave the visitors a thrilling victory. Travis Head, who started the innings for the men in yellow, went on to smash 154* runs in 129 deliveries to help Australia win the match by seven wickets as they chased down 315 runs in 44 overs.
Head received the Player of the Match award for his outstanding play. The star batter discussed Australia’s performance and how they overcame a difficult beginning to the run chase to win it after accepting the award.
Jofra [Archer] bowled an incredible stint at the beginning, which was good for me. I’m happy I can go on; this is a fantastic wicket. We did a terrific job, in my opinion, getting it to 315. I felt it was great that we survived the difficult start. We performed incredibly well. The guys are fun to play for, and the atmosphere is great. “I’ve put in a lot of work, and it shows in my game,” Head stated during the post-game awards ceremony.
I haven’t felt like bowling: Head
It’s important to remember that Head bowled in the game’s opening innings. He bowled 4.4 overs, giving up 34 runs but also taking two wickets, dismissing Adil Rashid and Jacob Bethell. After the match, Head took the mic and discussed how, despite his lifelong reluctance to bowl, he was fortunate enough to do so during practice with Daniel Vettori.
I will put bowling on the back burner for a while, Head said in the press conference following the match. I have been reluctant to bowl for the past several months, but I was lucky to roll my arm over a few times with Daniel Vettori and it turned out okay.
