In the five-match series between the two nations next year, former England captain Michael Vaughan believes pace Jasprit Bumrah of India will pose a threat to the highly effective Joe Root.
In the five-match series against India in 2025, former England captain Michael Vaughan believes star quick Jasprit Bumrah will cause Joe Root a great deal of grief. Notably, starting on June 20, India will embark on a five-match Test series visit to England. As the leading scorer thus far in the current World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, Root has been in incredible form.
With five hundred and six fifty-score runs at an average of 53.76 through 16 games played, the right-handed batter has already amassed 1398 runs. Though he scored 13 and 12 in two innings during the third Test against Sri Lanka, he had an uncommon failure. With the match lost by eight wickets, England paid a heavy price for their mistake.
Vaughan, who called Root the “glue that holds them together,” reflected on Root’s failure and highlighted his importance to the England batting lineup.
I was reminded this week just how crucial Joe Root is to this hitting lineup. The key is his batting. He receives flashy fifties from all these colorful sportsmen surrounding him. But, as Vaughan stated in his column for The Telegraph, “They are knackered without the glue at No 4 getting the huge amount of runs he does.”
The former English captain went on to say that Root won’t be as reliable against Bumrah, who enjoys bowling against the mainstay of the batting order.
Bowling at Root: Vaughan is enjoyable for Jasprit Bumrah.
He didn’t do it this week, and he can’t do it every week. Bowling at Root is a passion for Jasprit Bumrah, who may see a significant drop in production next summer. In Australia, Pat Cummins is similarly applicable, as Root has never reached a hundred runs there. When Root doesn’t make significant runs, England needs to find other strategies to win. He continued, “Based on this game, they don’t.”
Interestingly, Root has an excellent record against India, having amassed his greatest run total during his Test career against the Asian Giants. To date, the 33-year-old has amassed 2846 runs at an average of 58.08 versus India, including ten hundred and eleven fifties. Next year, when he takes on Bumrah, who has dismissed him nine times in his career, he will be keen to maintain his form against his favorite opposition.
