With Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) clinching the title in a thrilling finale against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the 2024 IPL season concluded its 17th edition on a high note. As the excitement from this season settles, attention shifts toward the highly anticipated IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
The IPL 2025 Mega Auction will likely follow the two-day format used in 2022. Although the exact date remains unconfirmed, it is expected to take place between December 2024 and February 2025. The official dates will be announced by the IPL governing council closer to the event.
The venue for the 2025 auction is anticipated to return to India, in contrast to the 2024 auction, which was held outside the country. Possible cities include Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata, which have previously hosted major IPL events due to their infrastructure and historical importance.
Significant changes are expected for the 2025 auction, particularly in terms of team retention. Teams will likely be limited to retaining only 3 or 4 players, with the rest entering the auction pool. This will lead to a competitive bidding atmosphere.
The 2025 auction is set to mirror the structure of the 2022 mega auction, where 204 players were sold for a total of Rs. 551 crore, making it one of the most exciting auctions to date.
