The Duleep Trophy looks at Gill’s leadership as well.
Russia While playing India B in the Duleep Trophy 2024 match at M Chinnswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, captain Shubman Gill is donning a taped-up jersey. According to what is known, the cricket player chose to play in a taped-up jersey because he couldn’t access his usual “77” shirt.
He could have taken a teammate’s jersey if he had chosen to tape up the number to avoid confusion. The young player, who wore number seven during the U19 World Cup, is particularly fond of that particular number. When number seven became unavailable, he had to settle for number 77 in senior cricket, even though he still wanted to wear it.
Meanwhile, Gill’s captaincy is being questioned in the Duleep Trophy. India A made a brilliant start with the ball, reducing the Abhimanyu Easwaran-led team to 94/7. But since then, Navdeep Saini and Musheer Khan took charge of the situation and forged an important alliance that saved India B from failure.
India was under pressure because Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed—who had performed admirably in the first two sessions of Day 1—looked drab in the final session. A. Kuldeep Yadav did not impress either. For a considerable amount of time, Gill, who on Day 1 made a spectacular grab to dismiss Rishabh Pant, appeared to be at a loss. Since Navdeep and Musheer never seemed to be in danger, Gil’s leadership has come under scrutiny.
There was also a lack of short ball attempts by the bowlers against the hitters. India B, who are clearly in control of the game, will need Gill to step up and inspire his bowlers to get going and finish the contest quickly.
On Day 2 of the Duleep Trophy, however, young Musheer Khan scored 150 runs. When he reached the halfway point, his brother Sarfaraz Khan praised him with a standing ovation, and he appeared perfect. He was also observed telling Musheer to spend a lot of time on the crease.
