Josh Hull, the towering 6ft 7in left-arm seamer, has made his Test debut for England in the third match of the series against Sri Lanka at the Oval, starting on Friday, September 6. Hull, who replaced the injured Mark Wood in the squad, will take Matthew Potts’ spot in the playing XI. England has already secured the series win at Lord’s and is now aiming for a clean sweep.
The 20-year-old Leicestershire pacer was selected following his standout performances in domestic cricket and for the England Lions. Hull was a key player in Leicestershire’s 2023 One-Day Cup triumph.
Earlier this month, Hull shone for the England Lions, taking five wickets for 74 runs in a seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka. This remarkable performance led to his call-up to the senior squad.
In his brief first-class career, Hull has taken 15 wickets in 9 matches at an average of 58.06, while his List A career boasts 17 wickets in 9 matches at an average of 24.23.
